The other night, Zephyr picked the book “The Very Busy Spider” by Eric Carle as one of the books for me to read him before bed. I have used many of the Eric Carle books for yoga, but this one I hadn’t used in a really long time. Zephyr and I thought it would make the perfect kids yoga class for his preschool class where I was teaching the next day. It also fits in perfectly with all the gardening and beautiful almost summer weather around here. It also gave me an excuse to teach the kids how beneficial spiders are for our yards and to just leave them and let them do their thing- eating all the pests like flies and mosquitoes! Superhero School Kids Yoga
This class has evolved in the most incredibly fun way. I started off with a few superhero poses, and it ended up that we went to superhero school to learn to become superheroes. It has evolved as a Superhero School kids yoga class. The kids have been LOVING it. I even had a teacher text me this later in the day- “Just wanted you to know that the superhero yoga this morning had a profound affect on my day. On my break I witnessed a car accident and then put out a fire at starbucks.” Superhero School for Kids Yoga (for prek-2) I start by telling the kids we are going to school to learn to be superheros. I ask “what do you know about superheros?” They save the day! Superheroes have super powers! They wear costumes! I love all the answers the kids give me. In order for… Read More »
Winter Animal Yoga
Winter animals do many things to prepare for the cold. Some of them hibernate, some migrate, while others adapt. I created this class based on many other awesome winter animal lesson plans and books I’ve read and used throughout the years. Zephyr actually gave me most of my ideas based on what he learned about hibernating animals in school! Also a big thank you to the Next Generation Yoga Winter Animals Lesson Plan and Kids Yoga Stories Book Jenny’s Winter Walk. Winter Animals Yoga 1) Mountain Pose: Our mountains have snow at the top. Imagine the snow melting down our mountain. Bring your hands down from the top of your head to your sides. 2) Eagle Pose: Eagles and hawks use mountains to find their way during migration. Imagine you are an eagle, flying over the mountain ranges. 3) Warrior 3: Other birds like geese migrate South. Let’s imagine we are a… Read More »
