At one of the schools where I teach, every year we do Mother’s Day yoga. It’s my favorite classes of the year! Both the kids and parents love it, and I love it because I actually get to meet the moms of kids I teach all year. Some I’ve been teaching for the last 3 years. And besides, it’s super sweet for all parties involved. Here is the Mother’s Day sequence I did this year: 1) Name Stretch: We do a little rhyme – movement activity where we stretch in all different ways to say hello to everyone. Who doesn’t love to hear their name said out loud and get to stretch your body in the meantime!? 2) Partner Breath: The moms put their hands on the kids back, then we switch. We take deep breaths, trying to feel our partner’s breath in our hands and then we try to sync up… Read More »
Birthday Yoga!
This week was my birthday and I had to teach a bit so I figured I may as well have fun with it. I made the classes about my birthday which made me happy, was super sweet and the kids really liked it. I did this with my 20 min and 30 min Pre-k and Kindergarten classes. 1) Sun Warmup: We start the class using our suns to warm up our bodies. It is fun to explain to the kids about how the Earth circles the sun every 365 days which is a full year until it is your birthday again! It’s such a cool concept to teach and the kids really enjoy learning that. 2) Butterfly Pose: Next it’s time to make a birthday cake. We bring our toes to kiss to make our bowl. Each child has a chance to add an ingredient to the mix. We take our… Read More »
Spring Garden Yoga
Ah, can you hear the birds chirping with happiness? We can finally see the flowers popping up through the grass. It’s been positively delightful out there these last few days. This weather has inspired me to teach my Spring Garden yoga class where we plant a garden in the middle of our circle. This is one sequence that makes me so happy and even more excited to get out into my own garden! Spring Garden Yoga SequencePrintable lesson plan1. Sun Warmup: We always start with our suns. It feels great to warm up our body parts with the sunshine. What a perfect way to begin a spring garden yoga class! 2. Digging a Hole: We take our shovels and dig a hole to bury our flower seeds. Think of what kind or what color flower you are! Put yourself into this hole in child’s pose. I ask “what does a seed need… Read More »
