After all these years of teaching, I’m working hard to get creative and keep my classes fun and fresh. Props are a great way to infuse a little fun into your teaching. Here are a few of my favorites and how I use them: 1. Paper Suns. As you have been able to notice from my photos, I LOVE using the paper suns. They are a staple in my teaching. Kids and parents love them and they are especially great for preschoolers in getting them to focus. The suns help bring stillness as the kids stand like tall, strong mountains while I place a sunshine on their heads. They work so hard not to move or wiggle so their sun won’t fall. Finding Balance
When thinking about balance, and how to have more of it in my daily life, I decided to read a few articles written about it first. I love the site MindBodyGreen and all the articles on well-being. Rainbow Yoga!
This month my theme is Rainbow yoga. I love when I start a themed class at the beginning of a month and see how it evolves with all my classes. This sequence works great for a 20 or 30 min preschool class. 1) Breathing ball! I always love to start with the breathing ball– especially because it’s rainbow colored.2) Paint a rainbow – Glue your bottom to the mat. Raise one arm out to the side and reach it up over your head to paint a color of the rainbow over your head. Go back and forth from side to side. Let the kids call out the colors of course!Bringing arms behind you, hands on the floor, opening your heart, look up at your beautiful rainbow!3) Roly poly to your feet. What do we need in the sky to happen to make a rainbow? the sun and the rain of… Read More »
