Dinosaur Yoga (Pre-k – K) I am the mom to a 4 year old boy, which means my whole life revolves around dinosaurs right now. I have to read at least 3 dino books every night- some are stories but most are fact books. I’m learning A LOT but I’m also finding them to be even more incredibly fascinating then ever. Zephyr’s class is now studying about dinos because the kids have shown such an interest. I’m proud to say that Zephyr is teaching his friends so many facts! It’s pretty cute. When I went in to do yoga the other day, I figured it was time to do my dinosaur yoga class. I tweaked it a bit and it really turned out to be pretty fun. I ended up teaching it about 8 more times since then! Dinosaur Yoga Sequence 1) Breathing Ball breath: We need to calm… Read More »
Winter Animal Yoga
Winter animals do many things to prepare for the cold. Some of them hibernate, some migrate, while others adapt. I created this class based on many other awesome winter animal lesson plans and books I’ve read and used throughout the years. Zephyr actually gave me most of my ideas based on what he learned about hibernating animals in school! Also a big thank you to the Next Generation Yoga Winter Animals Lesson Plan and Kids Yoga Stories Book Jenny’s Winter Walk. Winter Animals Yoga 1) Mountain Pose: Our mountains have snow at the top. Imagine the snow melting down our mountain. Bring your hands down from the top of your head to your sides. 2) Eagle Pose: Eagles and hawks use mountains to find their way during migration. Imagine you are an eagle, flying over the mountain ranges. 3) Warrior 3: Other birds like geese migrate South. Let’s imagine we are a… Read More »
Thankful Yoga
Yogis and teachers like to teach about gratitude and being thankful this time of year. We create classes and activities that are based on these concepts. While we do try to show gratitude and be thankful all year round, I love that this class can be used to do just that. I taught it for the last few weeks to the preschoolers and modified it for the school age kids. I’m going to make sure to do this one at least once a season, we can never show too much gratitude for what we have and can always use the reminder. Thankful Yoga Sequence for Preschoolers: We start off talking about how lucky we are to have what we have, bodies that work, good food, homes, etc. Does everyone? Nope. You can go deeper into the concepts I’ve shared, or keep it brief. I’ve just shared the basics and wanted… Read More »
