At Alphabet Academy, one of the preschools I teach at, we decided to celebrate our mom’s in a really fun way. The preschool hosted 3 mommy and me yoga classes with tea and cookies to follow. It was a blast! I loved getting to meet the parents and sharing with them what I do with their children every week. When I teach in preschools, I so rarely meet the parents. This was a perfect way to do that! We started the class with a partner back to back breathing exercise. It helped to calm us, as well as connect with our partner. Next we used our suns to do a warm up sun salutation. We touch our body parts with the sun as a way to focus and warm up our bodies! This class was perfect for partner poses! Peace in the New Year
When I was a first grade teacher working in the inner city in Brooklyn, teaching about Martin Luther King filled me with extreme emotion every time. I would always cry reading my favorite book – My Dream of Martin Luther King by Faith Ringgold. The kids would always ask me “Why are you crying Ms. Rosen?” Such an important life cut short, especially in the way that he died, just tore me apart. He lost his life to the violence that he was speaking out about. I would read this story to the children, knowing they were living in an environment that was as opposite of peace as it gets. They lived in a world filled with guns, drugs, violence & fear. It was one of my favorite lessons of the year. How can we become more peaceful in our thoughts, words & actions? Reflecting on a Passing Year
As the year ends, it’s nice to take the time to think about all the good things that happened – we tend to focus on the challenges and hard times. So here it is, my top awesome memories of 2010- 1) Traveling out west for a month which included: ~ my sister’s wedding in Beaver Creek, Colorado ~ good friend’s wedding in Sonoma, CA ~ my sister’s bachelorette party in Las Vegas ~ road trip through the desert & LA with my sister-in-law 2) Losing our cat Bandha was sad, very sad. But we then rescued a cat we named Beans who was super sweet and loved our new home.
