Team Next Generation Yoga for the Africa Yoga Project
My great friend and mentor (and original Kids Yoga Teacher Trainer) Jodi Komitor of Next Generation Yoga, shared a post on facebook that she was going to Nairobi, Kenya from June 15 – July 1, 2013 to do her teacher training for 100 of the Africa Yoga Project teachers. She was looking for others to join in the Seva Safari. Even though I had a new baby, I knew it was something I HAD to do. I spent a year participating in monthly calls with the team (16 of us!) and raised $8,000!! I left an 18 month old and my husband Chris and got to experience 13 of the most life changing days of my life. We spent time at the Shine Center practicing yoga with the AYP teachers, assisted and taught yoga in Mathare, an informal settlement in Nairobi as well as Langata Women’s Prison, Tree House Orphanage, The School for Visually Impaired Children, and in a Masai Village.

You can read the blog post I wrote about what we did here.
You can still donate to the Children’s Yoga program we started there. Monies raised from Team NGY for AYP will cover the annual salary of AYP’s Kids Yoga Coordinator as well as bring joyful, playful, self-expressive yoga to children in schools, orphanages, informal settlements and various communities in Africa. It is an ongoing program that will continue to need our support!
