The month of February is always a great time to teach a little LOVE Yoga. We celebrate what we love about ourselves as well as think about those in our life who give us so much. It’s a great time for the pause to stop and think about what makes us happy. Also allows us to show our body some gratitude for what it does for us each and every day. Love, Love, Love (Pre-k – K) Heart Mudra – Bring your fingers together to make a heart mudra. Look through your heart at all your friends. See each one, and send them love. Then place your heart on your own heart and inhale and send love to yourself, exhale love out to someone you love. Roly Poly Pop! – Before you roll to your feet, ask the kids about their feet and what they do for them. Does everyone… Read More »
Let’s Hibernate!
So now we’ve moved into the dark, cold heart of winter. It’s here, we can’t do anything about it except just go with it. What do you like to do to keep warm in the winter? There are so many ways that we as humans keep ourselves warm and happy during the cold winter months. Animals also need to acclimate and it’s fun to teach a yoga lesson based on the habits of animals in the winter. Some hibernate, some grow thicker fur, others fly to warmer climates. Let’s explore this with a fun, active yoga lesson! Winter Animal Yoga (Pre-k – K) 1) Candle Breath — Hold your pointer up to your nose, inhale and make a wish. Then exhale and blow out your… Read More »
Let Your Light Shine Bright
I am not one to teach the holidays per se, since so many people celebrate so many different holidays here in this diverse little city of New Haven. I don’t want to assume everyone celebrates Christmas because they don’t. I LOVE to teach a kids yoga lesson with the theme of LIGHT. All the December holidays use lights to brighten up the dark December nights. It’s a celebration of the light inside us as well as all the things that brighten our lives during this dark time. Enjoy the lesson! Let Your Light Shine Bright Lesson (for pre-k – K) Ask the students what they notice about this time of the year (here on the East Coast). The weather is colder. The days are shorter, the nights are longer. Ask “what do we notice about all the houses at night?” They have lights! Lot’s of holidays in the month of… Read More »
