So now we’ve moved into the dark, cold heart of winter. It’s here, we can’t do anything about it except just go with it. What do you like to do to keep warm in the winter? Do you bundle up in a hat, mittens, puffy jacket and boots? Hide under the covers? Drink hot chocolate at night with your family? There are so many ways that we as humans keep ourselves warm and happy during the cold winter months. Animals also need to acclimate and it’s fun to teach a yoga lesson based on the habits of animals in the winter. Some hibernate, some grow thicker fur, others fly to warmer climates. Let’s explore this with a fun, active yoga lesson! Winter Animal Yoga (Pre-k – K) 1) Candle Breath — Hold your pointer up to your nose, inhale and make a wish. Let Your Light Shine Bright
I am not one to teach the holidays per se, since so many people celebrate so many different holidays here in this diverse little city of New Haven. I don’t want to assume everyone celebrates Christmas because they don’t. I LOVE to teach a kids yoga lesson with the theme of LIGHT. Enjoy the lesson! Let Your Light Shine Bright Lesson (for pre-k – K) Ask the students what they notice about this time of the year (here on the East Coast). The weather is colder. The days are shorter, the nights are longer. Ask “what do we notice about all the houses at night?” They have lights! Lot’s of holidays in the month of… Read More »
Loving the Leaf – A Fall Lesson Plan

As October turns to November the leaves are colorful and gorgeous, and our sidewalks are covered in these leaves. The weather gets crisp and cool but warm still from the sun, it’s really hard not to love it. I go into it with hesitation, but when it’s in full swing, I fully embrace it. Maybe it’s because the early fall symbolizes the loss of our first child Silas, while the late fall symbolizes the birth of our son Zephyr. This later fall time makes me really happy and I LOVE celebrating it with my yoga kids. So I continue the leaf meditations way into the later part of fall when the leaves are really covering the earth and some trees are… Read More »
