The other night, Zephyr picked the book “The Very Busy Spider” by Eric Carle as one of the books for me to read him before bed. I have used many of the Eric Carle books for yoga, but this one I hadn’t used in a really long time. Zephyr and I thought it would make the perfect kids yoga class for his preschool class where I was teaching the next day. It also fits in perfectly with all the gardening and beautiful almost summer weather around here. It also gave me an excuse to teach the kids how beneficial spiders are for our yards and to just leave them and let them do their thing- eating all the pests like flies and mosquitoes! This time of year is a bit nutty for everyone. Whether you celebrate the holidays or not, its just a super busy time. For those who celebrate holidays with gift giving, it’s just an extra added stress. We have been feeling it big time over here in our house. Yoga on the Farm
After spending my Memorial Day weekend with friends up in Hadley, MA who live on a lot of farmland, I was inspired. We went for ice cream to a working dairy farm called Flayvors of Cook farm that had chickens and cows which gave the kids such a sense of where their ice cream came from! I loved it. The farm sells an ice cream called Hadley Grass in which they use the local asparagus. Hadley was once called the “asparagus capital of the world” because of how fertile their soil is for growing asparagus. The wheels started turning in my brain while we enjoyed the cows and the ice cream. I love to take a real experience and then create a class out of it.
