Dinosaur Yoga (Pre-k – K) I am the mom to a 4 year old boy, which means my whole life revolves around dinosaurs right now. I have to read at least 3 dino books every night- some are stories but most are fact books. I’m learning A LOT but I’m also finding them to be even more incredibly fascinating then ever. Zephyr’s class is now studying about dinos because the kids have shown such an interest. I’m proud to say that Zephyr is teaching his friends so many facts! It’s pretty cute. When I went in to do yoga the other day, I figured it was time to do my dinosaur yoga class. I tweaked it a bit and it really turned out to be pretty fun. I ended up teaching it about 8 more times since then! Dinosaur Yoga Sequence 1) Breathing Ball breath: We need to calm… Read More »
Yoga Fun with Props!
After all these years of teaching, I’m working hard to get creative and keep my classes fun and fresh. Props are a great way to infuse a little fun into your teaching. The suns help bring stillness as the kids stand like tall, strong mountains while I place a sunshine on their heads. They work so hard not to move or wiggle so their sun won’t fall. We use the suns to take a big warming sun breath. The suns are helpful as a body awareness exercise as we touch all the different body parts… Read More »
Rainbow Yoga!
This month my theme is Rainbow yoga. I love when I start a themed class at the beginning of a month and see how it evolves with all my classes. This sequence works great for a 20 or 30 min preschool class. 1) Breathing ball! I always love to start with the breathing ball– especially because it’s rainbow colored.2) Paint a rainbow – Glue your bottom to the mat. Raise one arm out to the side and reach it up over your head to paint a color of the rainbow over your head. Go back and forth from side to side. Let the kids call out the colors of course!Bringing arms behind you, hands on the floor, opening your heart, look up at your beautiful rainbow!3) Roly poly to your feet. What do we need in the sky to happen to make a rainbow? the sun and the rain of… Read More »
